Artist Statement and Biography: The "Jewel of the Wind" was inspired by the angular, symmetrical and geometric forms of Art Deco. Hand-cut silver and colored mirrors are adhered to the body and wings so she shimmers like a jewel. Her hair and cloth are painted metallic gold and iridescent glass serves as highlights. She is interactive, changing depending on what is being reflected on her surface. She reflects the light of day or night, the weather, her viewers, etc.

 

Marcie Roepke Applegate studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design and received her BFA from Youngstown State University. She maintains a studio in the Ward Bakery Building in downtown Youngstown and coordinates the art exhibit annually at the Canfield Fair in Mahoning County.

 

Lynn Cardwell has a BA in English from Youngstown State University with minors in music and art. She is a professional potter and cello player. She maintains a studio in the Ward Bakery Building in downtown Youngstown.

Condition report

The statue measurements are approximately 6 feet tall by 8 feet, 6 inches long. These are works of art and some statues are meant to be displayed out of the elements.
