Typed letter uniquely signed, "Peggy Mitchell Marsh," one page, 4" x 4.75", dated October 1, 1936, Atlanta Georgia. A brief letter of reply to an admirer regarding his desire to have her autograph a copy of "Gone With The Wind", Mitchell writes, in full: "Dear Jim: If you mail me your book, I will be awfully glad to autograph it and send it back to you. My best to you and Virginia." A trivial stain is present at the top near the typed inscription, otherwise this letter stands in excellent condition. Accompanied by original typed mailing envelope. Mitchell won the Pulitzer Prize for her first and only novel, Gone With the Wind (published 1936). She died at the age of 48 after being hit by an automobile. The best-selling Civil War romance was later turned into one of the most famous movies of the era, with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh in the roles of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. The film won the 1939 Academy Award for Best Picture, plus seven other Oscars. LOA from PSA/DNA.
