Magnificent poster by Norman Rockwell. According to Renee Klish, Army Art Curator, U.S. Army Center of Military History, this Poster was commissioned by the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps to inspire massive increases in production. Because this artwork was not a magazine cover it is exceedingly rare. It is Mr. Rockwell's only painting to show a soldier in the actual heat of battle-his other works depicting Soldiers featured them in home front or light-hearted situations. Original hung in Pentagon then transferred to Historical Properties Office at the Center for Military History where it is housed today. The artist wrote about this...'This final poster represents one of our grand Soldiers in a tough spot on the firing line. The coil of cartridge tape and the empty cartridges show that he is about down to his last shot. N.R.' At lower right reads 'Ordnance Department, U.S. Army-Keep 'em Shooting; at lower left reads: Government Printing Office: 1942-O-468088. There is a rubber 4-line stamp above the lower left corner imprint that reads: Educational Services-Training Division-Bureau of Naval Personnel-Navy Department. Overall very fine condition folded in eighths as normal for this sort of poster, very minor edge flaws with a few tape remnants or reinforcements (not discolored) on reverse. Great color and condition for this rare Rockwell item.
