Almost 200 different black & white or sepia photographs from a personal photo album belonging to Dick Konter, Assistant Steward on the First Byrd Antarctic Expedition. Konter, an expert amateur photographer, took these photos of various events, scenes & people related to the expedition. Most amazing is a group of 36 different photographs of members of the expedition. All have been identified by writing to surviving members of the expedition with photocopies of these individuals. Most pictures vary from 3x5" to 6˝"x8˝". Overall appear to be in very fine condition, though the album itself is of the sort where photos adhere to wax adhesive. Most were formerly glued into an old black page photo album. Photos mostly sharp and unfaded by the years, though a very few are less than perfect. Ideal for the historian of this fabulous period and locale. Also includes some newspaper articles.
