Pair of important 19th Century Venetian carved and ebonized full standing figures, each figure is hand carved in various exotic woods and dressed in exotic clothing with inlaid ivory eyes, 67 1/2" and 70", signed Francesco Toso of Venice. Good condition, with old patina/finish, minor age cracks and wood loss. We believe these figures were in the Chicago Worlds Fair as part of the Italian Pavilion of Italian Art and Workmanship. Provenance: Collection of the Fuller Art Museum once owned by Governor Ames of Massachusetts (1831-1895).
