United States Passport #A1787602, signed ("Raymond W. Bolger"), 20 pages, approximately 4 by 6 inches, c.1970, excellent condition.
Like his Oz co-stars, Ray Bolger started in Vaudeville as a young performer. In 1936, Bolger was put under contract by MGM to present his eccentric dance techniques which he used in several musicals. His loose "rubbery" dance style is best remembered as he portrayed the straw stuffed Scarecrow in "The Wizard of Oz "(1939, MGM). He premiered in major Broadway shows, including "On Your Toes," and his signature role in "Where's Charley," which he filmed in 1952. He continued an active stage and television career thereafter. The passport present was issued to actor Ray Bolger and includes residence, birth date and birth place information. Featured is a 1970 2x2 head shot of Bolger in a white Tuxedo as well as several Visa stamps. Ray Bolger was proud to be known to generations for his characterization in Oz.
