German Red Roof Elevator Dollhouse

Sign In to see what this sold for

German dollhouse manufactured by Moritz Gottschalk, circa 1921. This dollhouse appears on page 199 of Marianne Cieslik's compendium of original catalogue photographs published under the title Moritz Gottschalk, 1892-1931. The dollhouse measures 23 inches high (chimneys not included), 18 inches wide and 13 ˝ inches deep. There are six rooms on three levels with a working elevator. The elevator is operated manually by means of a crank at the side of the dollhouse. On the first level there is a water closet with its original toilet. The windows throughout the dollhouse still have their original lace curtains. The interior retains its original wall and floor papers with minimal paper loss in the floor papers on the first level. There are vertical age cracks in the wooden frame at the rear and on the right side as are so often found in Gottschalk dollhouses. The exterior paint is original and, for its age, is in very good condition. There is some paint loss to the door on the second story. The flowers in the porch railings are not original. An added feature of this particular dollhouse is a garden that pulls out from the base at the front of the dollhouse. The side railings of the garden are original but the front rail, while old, is a replacement. The attractive chimneys on the roof are original.
