Original Zane Grey Fighting Chair. Grey's personal fishing chair found in his home at Altadena and featured in many photographs of Zane's fishing adventures. Standing 39 1/2" tall overall, the chair is in very good overall condition. Originally built for Grey by Joe Coxe and thus features his rod socket. Coxe chose to use metal piping for the handles, a machined metal base and solid oak. The backing of the chair can be removed to allow the user various positions while fighting a fish. The underside has a replaced swiveling mount on the original shaft. The bottom platform measures 24 1/2" x 27 1/2" and was professionally made to display the chair. A once in a lifetime opportunity for the advanced Zane Grey collector to purchase the chair that Grey personally used to land the record big game fish he is so famous for. An exceedingly rare and historically important piece of Zane Grey history. Zane Grey, celebrated western author of the 1920's and 30's and avid sportsman, has become one of the most sought after personalities in today's fishing collectible market. The offering of the following Zane Grey lots represents the largest number of personally owned Grey items to be sold in a single auction. These truly museum worthy artifacts are of great historic importance and provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for Zane Grey collectors from novice to advanced. The following 150 lots comprise the Brock-Tinglum collection. All of the items in this collection were obtained from Zane Grey's Altadena residence, and come with a letter of provenance. The articles herein were found just as the Grey's had left them. The majority of the pieces had not been moved in decades, photographs hung on the walls in their original positions and papers lay in stacks on the shelves. For years it had been rumored the 1967 fire had engulfed many of these important articles, which can now be proven false by the presence of this collection. The wish of Brock and Tinglum, who have preserved these important items with care for many years, is to pass each rare object to others who share their enthusiasm for the man that so many, 68 years after his death, are still infatuated with. This collection showcases many of the rarest pieces of Grey memorabilia to ever be offered for sale.
