Author: Oakley, Violet Description: xii, 51 pp. printed text from artist's calligraphy + 22 mounted/tipped-in plates (full color reproduced from Oakley's murals). Plus, International Supplement and Key book (122 pages), bound folio wrappers, laid in. (Large folio) 22½x15¼, plates and original text leaves, loose, as issued, inside original gilt-lettered blue cloth portfolio drop-back box. No. 375 of 500 copies, this being 1 of 250 "International Edition" copies, signed by Oakley on the limitation page. Includes a Season's Greetings announcement card for the 1960 William Penn Governor's Luncheon for Distinguished Daughters of PA, inscribed on cover "from Violet Oakley and Edith Emerson" with mailing envelope addressed to Mildred B. Miller (Valley Center, CA), laid in. Oakley (1874-1961) was an early student of Howard Pyle's Brandywine School. Mostly a book illustrator, Violet's talents were greatly applied when in 1902 she was commissioned to paint a series of murals in the new Pennsylvania State Capitol Building, several of which depict the story of William Penn. She later taught courses at the Penn Academy of Fine Arts.
