DESCRIPTION: Coin from the Treasure of the Concepcion which sank at the Abrojos Reef, 80 miles northeast of Hispaniola (now the Dominican Republic). The Concepcion had set sail from Vera Cruz, Mexico on July 23, 1641 carrying an exceptionally large treasure cargo bound for Spain. A recovery effort by Boston sea captain William Phips in 1687 recovered a substantial amount of the treasure. On November 28, 1978, Burt D. Webber, Jr. rediscovered the Concepcion and recovered additional treasure including this coin. Includes Certificate of Authenticity from Seaquest International Inc., Nov 1979. Handsomely presented in metal frame. MEASUREMENTS: Coin measures approximately 1 1/8" in diameter (irregular). Overall size measures 18" X 12". CONDITION: Nice luster to coin.
