DESCRIPTION: Byzantine icon painted on wood, Russian or Serbian, circa 17th/18th century, of Theotokos (Mother of God) of the Life-Giving Spring, showing Mary and infant Jesus in a large chalice standing in a reservoir of water surrounded by angels, religious figures and a prostrate man. The Life-Giving Spring, near Constantinople, the site of many miracles dating from the 5th century AD to present day through the grace of Theotokos. MEASUREMENTS: 16" x 12-1/2". CONDITION: Areas of crazing, wear, small losses and nicks, center crack affecting painting and wood, edge chips, back with two stabilization wood inserts.
