(Rowlandson color plates) Combe, William. THE TOUR OF DOCTOR SYNTAX IN SEARCH OF THE PICTURESQUE. (To the Lakes), Phila (?), circa 1820s, this being a terribly defective copy of one of the Syntax classics, illustrated in full color by Thomas Rowlandson. This copy retains6 of the original hand colored aquatints, but lacking many others (as is); together with Combe, William. THE SECOND TOUR OF DOCTOR SYNTAX IN SEARCH OF CONSOLATION, Phila, Carey and Lea, 1822. 277pp. This copy contains 7 of the original 24 hand colored aquatints by Rowlandson. The plates in both vols are trimmed right to the margin of the image along their outer edges. Both volumes are bound in ¾ calf with marbled boards. Should be seen.
