Rare Antique Harp Guitar, 1890s,
spruce top; mahogany back, sides and neck; rosewood fretted fingerboard, walnut fretless bass fingerboard, mother-of-pearl inlay on headstock, guitar fingerboard. - Examined by two outside experts and thought likely to be a unique,custom-made instrument. Of particular interest is the man-in-the-moon inlay on the fingerboard. This decorative element is very similar to ones found on W. A. Cole's Eclipse banjos of the late 19th century. - Original 12-string tailpiece replaced with crude 6-string tailpiece, requiring the bass fingerboard to be unstrung, Repaired cracks on back, dings, scuffs consistent with age and use. Overall good condition and playable. Fresh from an estate, the guitar comes with a concert program dated June 23, 1897, the cover of which has a photograph of this instrument in the hands of its original owner.
