EXTREMELY RARE PRESLEY CORDELL, LEESBURG, VA MAHOGANY TALL-CASE CLOCK, 8-day brass works, painted moon-phase dial signed "P. Cordell / Leesburg", flat-top hood with turned columns, case with chamfered corners and figured-grain waist door, applied reeded base molding raised on beehive-form turned feet. Pine and poplar secondary woods. Pendulum and weights appear to be original.. First quarter 19th century. 90 1/2" h
Note: Presley Cordell (1779-1849) was born in Leesburg, VA to George and Catherine Cordell. His father had immigrated from Wiltshire, England in 1741/42. The elder Cordell is recorded by MESDA as a cabinetmaker and clockmaker while Presley is recorded as a clockmaker and silversmith. Condition reportExcellent condition, appears to be running, minor veneer chip at door.
