SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VA HEPPLEWHITE INLAID WALNUT SLANT-FRONT DESK, dovetailed case featuring a hinged lip-molded writing board above four graduated drawers with applied cock beading, cut-out skirt, raised on flaring French feet. Interior fitted with a central prospect door flanked on each side by four drawers and four arch-top cubby holes. Yellow pine secondary wood, original diminutive oval brasses. Outstanding dark, possibly original, surface. Probably Augusta Co. First quarter 19th century. 46" h, 38 1/2" w, 20 1/2" d
Note: See Hurst/Prown, {{Southern Furniture, 1680-1830}}, p. 449, fig. 137, for a very similar desk which descended in the Coiner family of Augusta Co. A Hepplewhite chest of drawers with identical under-sized brasses and with strong Augusta Co. family history is in a private collection. Condition reportExcellent original condition, minor old repairs to hinge areas, crack to right front foot, other minor imperfections.
