Book: Rare atlas by Robert Mills Mills, Robert. ATLAS OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. Philadelphia: J. W. Kite, Printer, 1838.
Provenance: From the library of August Kohn. August Kohn (1868-1930), Columbia, S. C. journalist and businessman, assembled one of the finest private libraries of South Caroliniana in the country. He was an avid collector of books, pamphlets, and maps related to his beloved native state. A writer of ability, he wrote for the Charleston News and Courier after graduating cum laude from South Carolina College in 1889. He also wrote pamphlets about the towns of Orangeburg and Columbia and, in 1903, published a significant work titled The Cotton Mills of South Carolina. Other Notes: The major difference between the 1825 edition and this one is an alteration in the map of Pendleton District to show the division into Pickens and Anderson Districts. Condition reportNice restored and rebound condition. Each map is backed as part of the conservation process. Otherwise with condition consistent with age.
