Book: Scarce American atlas A COMPLETE HISTORICAL, CHRONOLOGICAL, AND GEOGRAPHICAL AMERICAN ATLAS¦. Philadelphia: H. C. Carey and I. Lea, 1823.
Provenance : From the library of August Kohn. August Kohn (1868-1930), Columbia, S. C. journalist and businessman, assembled one of the finest private libraries of South Caroliniana in the country. He was an avid collector of books, pamphlets, and maps related to his beloved native state. A writer of ability, he wrote for the Charleston News and Courier after graduating cum laude from South Carolina College in 1889. He also wrote pamphlets about the towns of Orangeburg and Columbia and, in 1903, published a significant work titled The Cotton Mills of South Carolina. Other Notes: The second printing of an atlas that first appeared in 1822, this folio volume contains 53 plates with all of the American states, Canada, South America and the West Indies included. Condition reportOverall in good condition with normal wear, discoloration and aging of paper. The book was rebound sometime ago, and front and back cover is detached.
