Sign In to see what this sold for

This stunning American theme hope chest was designed and hand painted to capture prominent moments of Former President George H.W. and Barbara Bush's life. Painted by Oklahoma artist Denise Duong and signed by Former President and First Lady George H.W. and Barbara Bush. Pictures of the signing will be included with the hope chest. George H.W. Bush served as the Vice President of the United States from 1981 to 1989. On January 20th, 1989 he became the 41st President of the United States and is respectfully referred to as #41. Known for his high moral principles, George H.W. Bush rallied the American people to engage in acts of personal commitment to serving others. In his inaugural speech captured on the top of the hope chest, he summarizes his own commitment to the American people in the words “There is but one just use of power, and it is to serve people.” George H.W. continues to serve his country. Having lost his young daughter Robin to leukemia two months prior to her 4th birthday, George has remained committed to supporting research towards finding a cure for cancer. On August 20th, 1991, he signed a bill proclaiming September 1991 as National Awareness Month for Children with Cancer. With his wife Barbara and in celebration of their birthdays, The George and Barbara Bush Endowment for Innovative Cancer Research has become an important research initiative at the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. George currently serves alongside his wife Barbara (Barbara Pierce Bush) as Co-Chairs of the national cancer organization C-Change. Comprised of America’s key cancer leaders from public and private sectors including Candlelighters’ Director Ruth Hoffman, their goal is to leverage the leadership and expertise of all sectors of society to eliminate cancer as a major public health issue. "Naomi’s Hope for a Cure" (http://www.hope4acure.net) is indebted to George and Barbara Bush for their steadfast commitment to childhood cancer research in this country. We sincerely thank them for their support of the gala event through the signing of the American theme hope chest which will be auctioned off at the gala’s live auction. This is your once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a piece of history and support childhood cancer research!
