Franklin Dullin Briscoe (PA, 1844-1903),
oil on board, initialed in lower right "F. D. B.," marine view with sailing ships and harbor, housed in the original gilt wood frame with composition ornament; Franklin Dullin Briscoe was born in Baltimore, Maryland but moved with his family to Philadelphia in 1848. Philadelphia proved a fertile ground for his early training, including studies with Thomas Moran. He traveled extensively and garnered a reputation as a marine artist, rendering small scenes such as this picture with delicate detail. - SS 7.5" x 13.5"; DOA 13" x 19"
