Paul King. (b. 1867 -1947). American. Sailboats and Clouds. Oil on canvas. 30 x 25 in . Signed lower right. Mastery of technique and medium are hallmarks of Paul King's American Impressionist works. From 1906, when his oil painting Hauling the Anchor Line captured the Salmagundi Club's top two prizes, King's merit was freely acknowledged by his artist peers, as well as by the critics and public. He studied in Holland with Willy Sluiter. In 1921 he settled on Long Island were he lived until his death in 1947. Here, one of the finest examples of this talented Salmagundi Club member artist.
