Henry Hammond Ahl. (b.1869-1953) American. Ipswich Bay. Oil on canvas. 10 x 14 in. Signed lower right. Connecticut native and Salmagundi Club member whose work reflected his exposure to the Tonalist style of the Barbizon painters. A fall from a scaffold in 1915 ended Ahl's career as a muralist painter after which he took up landscape painting, his best known work. The New England landscape figures prominently in Ahl's subject matter. Provenance: The Old Picture Store, Boston, MA.
