Schwartz American Impressionist Painting
Description
Andrew Thomas Schwartz. (b.1867-1942). American. Bare Trees in a Snowscape. Oil on masonite. 8 5/8 x 11 5/8 in. Signed lower right. Noted American landscape painter whose finest achievements were his views of New England. At a memorial show at the Lotus Club (NYC) in 1944, art critic Royal Cortissoz, commented: "Schwartz could saturate an Italian scene in the handsome 'Roman Twilight' but when he came to paint the countryside of his native land he was moved solely by its racy sentiment. He had charm as well as craftsmanship". Schwartz studied at The Art Students League in New York. He exhibited extensively at the National Academy of Design, the Art Institute of Chicago and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club.
