Walt Kuhn. (b.1877-1949). American. Reclining Woman in Lingerie. 1929. Pencil on paper. Image size: 10 1/4 x 18 1/4 in. Signed and dated lower right in image. As a key figure in organizing the controversial Armory Show in 1913 that introduced modernism to America, Kuhn wrote to Waler Pach, European representative of the Exhibition: "... you know that we are all in the same boat for this great chance to make the American think...I'd rather stay at home and work hard at my pictures shoving in some of the things I have learned, but we are all in deep water now and have got to paddle".
