Prouve Painting French Nouveau Deco Galle

Victor Emile Prouve. (b.1858-1943). French. Portrait of a Man in Hat and Coat. Gouache and colored pencil on paper. 7 x 5 in. Prouve joined the Emile Galle Company workshop as a boy, initially becoming a ceramics designer there. He did not, however, abandon his painting and drawing. He continued to work for Galle and Louis Majorelle designing marquetry, as well as for others designing laces, embroideries, jewelry, glassware, bookbindings and graphics. He worked according to Art Nouveau principles in all these media.
