(Italian, 1895-1971), portrait of Mrs. April Akston, signed lower right "Campigli 53", signed and inscribed verso "Portrait of Mrs. Akston done in 1953 in Rome by Campigli 7/3.53", oil on canvas, original stretcher and tacking edge, 33-1/2 x 19-5/8 in., original 1950s reverse profile carved wood frame antiqued with gilt and painted highlights, label for "Heydenryk Frames, New York", with glass. Canvas loose, crackle. Provenance: Deaccessioned by The North Carolina Museum of Art, gift of Mrs. April Akston. Reserve: $10,000
