MARYLAND SAMPLER. Ca. 1837. Silk on linen. Signed "Catherine Hauser Aged 10 years" followed by sentimental verse over double-chimney brick or stone house and large basket of flowers. Worked sets of the alphabet and numbers. The whole surrounded on three sides by strawberry border. According to accompanying history, Catherine was born in December of 1827 and married Thomas Henry Vansant. The 1860 census lists the family as all being Maryland born and living in Baltimore. Minor imperfections. 17" x 17". Modern frame.

Condition: Very good to excellent condition with minor color loss and very small hole in ground in lower right corner.
