FINE DECORATED BLANKET CHEST. Pennsylvania, probably Lehigh County, ca. 1800-1840, pine. Six-board dovetailed chest of smaller size with an interior till and resting on turned feet. Retains its original vibrant paint decoration, consisting of blue hearts and circles outlined in red, green, and cream on a sponged red ground and trimmed in green. Retains its original locks and hinges (marked Baldwin"). Minor paint wear. 18 _"h.

have been "most often" found in Lehigh County (see The
Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest, figures 61, 165,
and 227, as well as 180, which has large hearts executed in
the same manner as the chest offered here)."

Condition: After further analysis, it has been determined that the paint is not period. The chest was decorated by Peter Deen. The underside of the till is signed by Deen and also dated, 1987. Very well done. Minor paint loss (retains 90-95% of its paint). Lock part on lid has been moved. The back panel is unpainted. The chest is pine. Revised estimate of $800-1,200.00. This cannot be shipped by Garths. br>
