DECORATED BLANKET CHEST.
Pennsylvania, mid 19th Century. Pine, poplar and walnut. Dovetailed case with an interior till and turned feet. Retains its original hardware and its original red and yellow paint decoration with black-painted trim and feet. Illegible signature. Minor paint touch up, alligatored surface. 22 1/2h. 44"w. 23 1/2"d." Condition reportCondition: Some touchup to the black, particularly around the base, old overvarnish has alligatored, and the top has darkened considerably. No signs of earlier paint. Has key. Inscription on till reads "Hiram L. Miller 1865/ His cousin Julia written / by his teacher 1865 / no [mare] at present time / .....wrote..../ Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
