A fascinating artifact. This is a homemade, vintage Guest Log with wooden covers for a Chesterfield Valley Rathskeller. Among the several signature lists for various events includes an event titled 'The Browns Dinner, August 16th 1936'. Underneath the title are the player and coach signatures, all in pencil. The key signature displayed is Jim Bottomley, Hall-of-Famer, who was in the twilight of his career at the time, spending his earlier years with the cross-town Cardinals. Another interesting signature is that of Gabby Street, who had been the successful manager of the Cardinals 'Gas House Gang' teams of the early 1930s. Not certain as to why Street was in attendance as he would not take on the managerial reigns of the Browns until 1938, he probably was a special guest. Unfortunately, the Browns manager at the time, the great Rogers Hornsby, is absent from this event (or at least did not sign). The other events and signatures throughout the Log are also interesting. Basically, this is a step back in time. A worthwhile journey!
