'The Stratton Story' was a film from 1949 which depicts the true story of Chicago White Sox player Monty Stratton. Stratton accidentally shot himself while hunting in the off-season in 1938, causing his right leg to be amputated. The story is about his inspirational comeback as a minor league player with a wooden leg in 1946. The movie starred Jimmy Stewart in the leading role, along with June Allyson as his loving and supportive wife, Ethel. This lot contains many materials and memorabilia from the movie including: the original script and rewrite, which won the Academy Award for best original screenplay; the actual uniform Mr. Stratton wore for the minor league team in Omaha; his Chicago White Sox game-worn cap; a hand-signed baseball (signature faded); two Monty Stratton Louisville Slugger (#s 40 & 25) mini-bats; a suit worn by Mr. Stratton to the Academy Awards (with picture); a framed B&W picture of Mr. and Mrs. Stratton and movie co-star June Allyson, with a nice inscription and signature from Ms. Allyson; a multitude of B&W pictures, many from the movie set; and more. Inspection suggested. Consignor is a descendant of Mr. Stratton. A very interesting grouping of movie memorabilia and artifacts from an Academy Award winning film.
