The Gaspee Affair and "The Burning of the Gaspee" by F.L. King, Oil on Canvas, lot of 2, Fredrick Leonard King (1879-1947), illustrator, marine painter, lecturer, teacher. A pair of oil paintings depicting the 1772 night attack on the British warship Gaspee by disgruntled Rhode Island colonists. The first of the two paintings depicts the wounding of British Lieutenant Wm. Dudington. Second painting shows colonists and prisoners in longboats watching the schooner ablaze, both signed "F.L. King " in lower right with stamped brass plates attached to frames with titles and descriptions, each in original gilt frames, painting 30" x 40", frame 33.75" x 43.75".
