Details/Condition: Bound in their original blindstamped emerald green leather boards with gilt embossing, raised spine bands, full page edge gilt, and inner border tooling, this antique set is a scarce description of the history, biography, scenery, relics and traditions relating to the American Revolution. The work profusely illustrated, with several hundred wood engravings by Lossing and Barritt, depicting important people and places of the war for independence. Additionally, there are four highly decorative frontispieces, including a color plate with gilt featuring military costume in volume one, and intricately drawn alternate title pages in both volumes. The books show some external age/wear, with a detached board and chipped spine on volume two, and are otherwise solidly bound with clear pages free of marks or marginalia.
