CIVIL WAR OFFICERS CAMPAIGN DESK A large and unusual Civil War era campaign desk with double secret drawer. The interior compartment with original felt is complete with silver topped bottles, the top cabinet folds down for paper storage. The brass carrying handles are inlaid into the cabinet to fit flush. The left handle also serves as the handle for the hidden drawer. This secret drawer contains an entire personal grooming kit with fitted compartments with ivory knobs and a shaving mirror with stand. The compartment contains a silver knife inscribed "Andrus L. C. to E. L. Hull: (There was a confederate Captain Edward Hull who served as an Adjutant to General C.A. Evans). This compartment includes the following: Three correct wedge shaped razors, a fancy bone toothpick, iron corkscrew, ear spoon - tweezers combination, a horn comb, brush, a pewter lid, an ivory handles clothes brush, a bones shaving brush, a pair of Civil War era sunglasses with blued frames, lead pencils. At the back of the secret drawer is a true secret drawer which locks and is exactly large enough to conceal a .31 cal. Colt pocket pistol. The original keys remain with the desk. Condition: There is an age crack in the wood on the top. The veneer is showing dovetail marks at the corner. Normal wear and in excellent condition for age.
