"Le General Bonaparte" (Napoleon Bonaparte), signed lower right "David 1831" (Pierre Jean David or David D'Angers, French, 1788-1856), gilt bronze, 6-1/4 in.; period round gilt brass frame surmounted by a crown with marble inset; lot accompanied by J. G. Reinis catalogue [The Portrait Medallions of David D'Angers], Polymath Press, New York, 1999; Napoleon Bonaparte is featured on cover and page 58-59 as illustration 58. Some wear and corrosion to gilt surface; frame with wear to gilding, corrosion at crown, two breaks in marble. Provenance: Private Collection.
