milkmaid outside a cottage, Dutch, 17th century, unsigned, follower of Aelbert Cuyp, Dutch, 1620-1691, oil on panel, 18-7/8 x 15 in.; Dutch channel frame with ebony veneer, possibly of the period. Areas of overcleaning, pentimento revealing a tree in upper middle portion of painting or retouch, retouch throughout sky obscured by varnish under ultraviolet light, possible monogram visible lower left "…C" under ultraviolet light, central abrasion, abrasions at edges, grime; frame with veneer losses, pest damage, with newer liner at sight edge. Provenance: Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Alderson Magee.
