follower of Ribera, St. Jerome in red vestment with hand raised in a blessing, unsigned, follower of Jusepe de Ribera, Spanish, 1591-1652, oil on canvas, late 17th/early 18th century, unframed, 37-1/4 x 45 in. Lined, restretched on old stretcher (19th century), test clean areas (varnish removed), accretion, paper top middle, crackle, flaking, at least two periods of restoration primarily in background, edges, some in face and clothing with approximately 25 percent of surface affected, some obscured by varnish. Provenance: The Collection of the Late Thomas Cary Duncan Eaves, Purchased from Parke-Bernet Gallery, New York, New York, circa 1930s.
