Robert, both unsigned, oil on canvas, 54-3/4 x 30 in.: the Falls of Tivoli with two figures on rocky outcropping, [three wax fill patches verso, retouch at falls, sky and figures affecting 30 percent of surface; a [capriccio] of classical ruins with elegant company, gondolier and washerwomen by a canal, [scattered retouch at bottom within architecture and some figures and in clouds, 25 percent of surface affected], follower of Hubert Robert, French, 1733-1808; matching 20th century carved and gilt wood frames with ribbon and stick decoration. Both lined, stretched on strainers, crackle, cupping, two periods of restoration; frames with abrasions. Provenance: Estate of the Late John R. Jones, Hickory, North Carolina.
