presentation to King Charles II (1630-1685) at court, unsigned, oil on canvas, English School, 36-1/2 x 42 in.; 20th century gilt wood and composition frame. Lined with card then relined with canvas, restretched on later stretcher, bitumen in areas of dark brown paint (possibly also focus of retouch), craquelure, at least two periods of restoration with retouch left of center in vertical pattern, lower left edge, right along vertical crease, at edges, scattered throughout with some obscured by varnish, approximately 15 percent of surface affected. Provenance: Private Collection, Asheville, North Carolina.
