(German, 1857-1938), marine scene, boats in a harbor, signed lower left "German Grobe", oil on canvas, 51-1/2 x 32-1/2 in.; fine possibly original gilt wood and composition frame. Lined with wax and linen, crackle, cupping, two periods of restoration with retouch in sails bottom right side, sky in middle, affecting 20 percent of surface; frame with losses to composition, separations. Provenance: Private Collection, Flat Rock, North Carolina, Formerly from Tenariffe House, Flat Rock, North Carolina.
