PLEASE NOTE: International shipping is NOT available for this item. This item will be shipped only within the United States. Very rare, 19th Century U.S.S. Consititution. This scratch built ship model from 1896 has a carved hollowed hull and was built by W. G. Washburn of Boston. The model has black topsides with a white waist and a green bottom. It appears that the hull was painted with a wash or dye and not with today's oil or water based paints. The deck is scribed and fitted with numberous details including grates, pin and fife rails, ship boats on davits, ladders, cannons on sleds, capstan, binnacle, stovepipe, bell with many other details. The model is rigged appropriately according to practices of the time and is complete with all standing and running rigging, flags and pennants and bone or ivory inscribed nameplate. The model is mounted on a teak baseboard and presented on a pair of antique brass pedestals. The model is intended for presentation in a light mahogany case with wood columns. The case has an interior trim of contrasting wood inlay with sutherland corners. The case is contemporary and needs glass. The owner of the model was in the process of building the case when he unfortunately died and it now is being offered by descent. 26"l. x 12"h., Provenance: W.G. Washburn was a noted ship model builder who also made prosthetic limbs on Tremont St. in Boston in the Late 1800's. This model comes by descent through the Estate of Boston Naval Architect Robert Oliver.
