Lot 336: Lincoln Memorial - 1922 Dedication Program!
LINCOLN MEMORIAL - 1922 DEDICATION
Scarce Program for the "Dedication of the Lincoln Memorial," 4pp, 12.25" x 10", held on "Decoration Day" [Memorial Day, 5/29], 1922. The monument was presented to the nation by former President William Howard Taft, chair of the Memorial Commission, and accepted by President Warren Harding. Light stain at right edge of front cover, otherwise in very good condition, quite exceptional for its age. With original envelope. With a 1976 pamphlet on the sculptor of the memorial, Daniel Chester French, and a program for an Abraham Lincoln centennial celebration signed for a young collector by the event's chairman, Fred Schwengel. At the service, Carl Sandburg read an address about the Great Emancipator. A great group of Lincolniana.
