Unlisted T.S. Sperry of New York 1854-55 Calendar Medal
1854-1855, Calendar Medal for the Second Half of 1854 and First Half of 1855, Struck in Brass, Issued by T.S. Sperry, New York, Very Fine.
Unlisted in Rulau. This unusual, 34 mm, reeded edge Calendar Medal for 1854-55, was issued by T.S. Sperry at 25 John Street in New York City. The obverse contains Sperry's advertising and a calendar for the first half of 1855. The reverse has the calendar for the last half of 1854, and an 1851 patent notice by I.B. Person. Apparently Person had these medals made for various merchants who then distributed them to advertise their own businesses. We have seen identical medals for J.B. Hyde, dated from 1852 to 1855. The 1853 Sperry medal offered here is in nice condition and completely readable. A very odd double year calendar medal, possibly rare as such.
