1855, New York Mechanical Calendar Medal, Struck in Brass, Very Good.
This 36 mm, reeded edge, Mechanical Calendar Medal is from the same series of 1855 Calendar Medals we have seen from Ohio and Illinois. This piece has the state arms of New York, with a spread-winged eagle at the top, surrounded by statistics about New York, and the date below. The reverse has the days of the week in an outer ring, and a rotating dial with numbers in the center. The center area of both sides is well worn, though the inscriptions around the outside are clearly readable. An interesting series of Calendar Medals. We wonder how many states were issued.
