February 2, 1791, Gazette of the United States, Published by John Fenno, Philadelphia, PA, Very Fine.
Vol. II, No. 80, 3-column layout, 4 pages, 16.75" x 10". Front page has details on the "establishment of a national mint, and coinage seems to be wished for by the legislature and the nation at large, and I cannot but hope that we shall, before many months are elapsed, have an American coinage, of gold, silver and copper. A plan is now preparing for that purpose, and is in considerable forwardness." Extracted from a letter from Philadelphia, this account is one of the earliest mentions of a national mint! Lightly toned sheet, tears along center line and fold; still quite legible.
