Title: First Report of the Royal Commission on Explosions from Coal Dust in Mines; with Minutes of Evidence and Appendices
Publisher: Printed for Her Majesty's Stationery Office, by Eyre and Spottiswoode Printing Year: 1891 Condition/Details: Bound in period black cloth binding, this rare volume is a government report to Her Majesty Queen Victoria regarding the danger of coal dust originating explosions in mines. The book includes scores of pages of minutes of evidence, folllowed by an appendix of graphs and charts. Most notably, the work is illustrated with many several fold-out lithographic plates, depicting underground layers, roadway plans, and dust particles, among other relevant images. Many of these brilliant full-color prints fold out to several panels. The volume shows some external wear, with a lacking spine, and is solidly bound with clean, intact, somewhat age toned pages. Each of the plates show beautifully and are crisp, colorful impressions on clear, sturdy pages free of tears or distracting age toning. The book measures approximately 8.25" x 12.5" and contains 194 pages. The volume contains several period owner's stamps, belonging to Theron B. Corey, the superintendent of the Oregon Improvement Company at the end of the 20th century. These stamps appear on the title page as well as on the margins of many of the color plates and text pages. There are some additional pencil notations on the prelims and title page. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50 ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
