ROY DE FOREST (American) Lithograph

Roy De Forest (American, 1930 - 2007)

Comp. D.

Lithograph. Early 1950s. Probably an artist's proof. Signed in pencil, lower left; titled in pencil, lower right. Printed on Purple paper. 15 3/4 x 22 13/16 in. (400 x 579 mm). Sheet Size: 20 x 26 in. (508 x 660 mm). De Forest's work evolved through a number of styles, from abstraction to non-objective, from funk to realism. His early paintings were composed of larger, overlapping, amorphous shapes in bright colors. The early prints were not as colorful and were characterized by "Motherwellian" blacks. These prints appear to have been issued in very small editions, if editioned at all, and undoubtedly are very rare.
