Signed Photograph, "W.C. Handy," black ink, March 3, 1949, vintage glossy 10" x 8", Very Fine. The photo is of Handy reading book and seeming lost in thought, signed and inscribed in fountain pen "Miss Irene Cauron, W.C. Handy, 3-3-1949." Handy was the first person to recognize the importance of blues as a legitimate musical form and the first to publish a blues composition titled "The Memphis Blues." There is some creasing (not visible head on), two small tears to the left edge that have been repaired on the reverse, and some slightly uneven ink flow.
