1758, French & Indian War Era, Manuscript Discharge Certificate, from Horse Troop of 13th Regiment of Colonial Connecticut Militia, Fine.
September 26, 1758, Autograph Document Signed, by Joseph Perry, Andrew Graham and Capt. Elnathan Judson, 1 page, measuring 8" x 8." This handwritten discharge certificate, dated at Woodbury (CT), releases James Masters from service with the colonial militia due to illness. The document reads in full (original spelling and punctuation):
These may Certifie all Persons whom it may Concern that James Master belonging to the Troop of Horse of the 13th Regiment in the Colony of Connecticut is thro Bodily Indisposition unable to Serve in the Military Having been for a Long time troubled with an Aehteric disorder of which it is fearfull whether he will ever recover so as to be a sound Man before he is afflicted with a somniferous Disorder that at some times it is almost impossible to keep him awake therefore we think it highly proper that he be Released from Military Exercise as Men unable ought not to be Numbered. - This Certifieth - [signed] Joseph Perry - Andw. Graham - P_s P_k."
The back of this certificate is docketed: "October 2, AD 1758 The within was accepted by Me Elnathan Judson Capt." This document is somewhat foxed and faded, and has a few small fold separations, otherwise it is in good shape.
