This rare and important Washington Medal was struck shortly after his death in 1799. Engraved by Westwood, who has signed on the truncation of Washington's bust, this 40 mm plain edge medal exhibits evidence of double striking, especially on the reverse. A deep chestnut brown in color, this medal presents a pleasing appearance, with some minor rim nicks and hairline scratches. Formerly in the famous Norweb Collection, this popular and historic medal will make a great addition to any Washington Collection.
