British Man o' War Daguerreotype, tinted Union Jack

She is anchored in a harbor with mountains in the left background, some building on the nearer hills. Possibly the location can be identified. Sailors are on the deck, and up on each of the masts. A large gauzy Union Jack is at the stern, tinted blue. Part of another ship is seen at the left edge, and another beyond the bow. Of the small number of extant daguerreotypes of ships, few if any show so many sailors. Rarely is the sea calm enough for a clear image. The 1/6 plate daguerreotype is in a 4 1/4" x 5" black hinged case with a blue velvet surround with horizontal stripes on the pad. The plate has soft wipes. [2+]
